SURVIVORS' STORIES

RUSS COOMES

I was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma at the age of 19 in January of 1977. I was treated at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda Maryland. After several months of experimental treatment and hospitalization I slowly recovered and will be celebrating 25 years of living without cancer this January. The past 25 years have been more rewarding than I could have ever dreamed. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and we have been gifted with 4 beautiful children. I will be sharing my story with a book I have begun to write to celebrate the past 25 years. It will be titled "Please God Twenty-five years" as this was my prayer back in 1977. Time has a way of allowing us to forget the pain, illness, uncertainty, and heartache of our family and friends when we experience a dreadful disease like Burkitts. I pray that my life can be an ecouragement to anyone facing uncertainty and hopelessness of having Burkitts Lymphoma. God Bless You.
